Landscaping
This is a "spot" tactic and is useful to prevent or discourage geese from entering the landscaped area for feeding. The absolute best landscaping is zero or small amounts of grassy areas. For those who want grass, then tall vegetation should be placed by the lakeshore. Repellents on parts of the grassy area would also be helpful. Again, when the numbers of geese are moderate, the geese will then go to the foraging areas that you selected that are easily and safely accessed by the geese.

Canada geese access from water to land can also be restricted through landscaping that utilizes cattails, lilies, or aquatic grasses as excellent and inexpensive barriers. Deb Doncaster and Jeff Keller have gathered all the information you should need to implement such a project in their report, "Habitat Modification & Canada Geese," which can be downloaded on line from the Animal Alliance of Canada web site. A CD ROM version of the report is also available for just $5 plus $1.50 shipping and handling. Contact GeesePeace to order your copy.
